Professional Development

Amanda Roberts is the Professional Development Coordinator for GHID. This committee is responsible for presenting challenging, relevant workshops and other development opportunities designed to enhance and advance the skills of working interpreters and students of Interpreter Training Porgrams (ITP).

Upcoming workshops and events are listed below:

Sept 26 , 2009 - COMPLETED. Two 3-hour workshops are planned for this event. Randi Turner is the presenter for both. From 9:00 AM - noon we will cover Qualified to Interpret? Coercion in K-12 Settings. From noon to 1:00, GHID will conduct a membership meeting. At 1:00 we will turn our attention to ADA and Interpreter Services. Both workshops carry 0.3 CEUs each. May 30, 2009 - COMPLETED. Open Community Forum for Interpreters, Coordinators, Agencies, and Consumers. GHID is hosting an Open Forum on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the HCC Conference Center, 3100 Main, Seminar Room B. Additional sponsors are Montgomery County RID (McRID) and HCC.

Completed. December 6, 2008 - Tactile Tactics, an Introduction to Deaf/Blind Interpreting. Monica Parks and Valerie Pedraza, both experienced interpreters and presenters, are ready to share their knowledge of Deaf-Blindness in the US, its cause and effects, and techniques you can immediately incorporate into your work.

Completed. October 17-18 2008 - Total Immersion Weekend. Presented by Montgomery County Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (McRID), this will be unique opportunity to spend two days at a resort with other interpreters using and enhancing your ASL skills as you earn 0.9 CEUs.
